Autism Speaks

With Autism Awareness Day coming up in less than a month, I've decided to tell everyone about Autism Speaks, since, as a person with an autism spectrum disorder, I feel qualified to talk about it.
Autism Speaks sounds ideal. It's trying to help fund autism treatment and research. Its motto is "It's time to listen."
Ha. Ha ha ha ha.
There has never been someone with autism on their board or anything.
You aren't speaking for a people if you don't have part of the people there with you, inputting their thoughts.
That's not how things work.
It's also not like we just can't say anything. That would be different. Animal rights people don't know what animals are thinking. If autism were like that, it would be different but it's not.
Most autistic people can understand language.
A lot of acutely autistic people, if given access to a computer, would be able to type.
Don't believe me? Carly Fleischmann.

Autism Speaks funds autism treatment, right? Only 4% of their donations go to family helping. 4%.
And one of the things they have partnered with is the Judge Rotenberg Center.
The Judge Rotenberg Center uses electric shock to discipline the people they are "helping".
Electric shock.
ELECTRIC SHOCK.
It does not take an expert to know that that it not okay, no matter what.
Yes, let's shock people that can barely control what they're doing! That makes perfect sense! (That was sarcasm, by the way)
Also, Autism Speaks has their logo as a puzzle piece. You have probably seen ribbons with rainbow puzzle pieces on them or something.
Are we broken people that need to be put together and "fixed"?
I am not broken. I am different from everyone else, but that does not make me broken.
We do not need to be "fixed". We do not want our autism to go away. It is a nuisance, but it is part of us and what makes us us.
Please, unless Autism Speaks changes these things, do not support them.
